There is a saying that you get one chance in your lifetime. Alhamdolillah, I have been very fortunate to get two of them.
First in 2001 when I signed up an employment contract from Dubai Islamic Bank, which to me meant as signing the peace treaty with Allah since indulgence in Riba has been declared in Quran as waging war with Allah and His Messenger Mohammed (SAAW).
I got my second chance in 2004 when I was honoured to be chosen by Dr. Hussain to set up Sharia Coordination Department (SCD) which was the brainchild of Dr. Hussain for facilitating quick Sharia clearance for transactions. This first experimentation proved to be a turning point as if the Islamic Finance world was waiting for DIB to set it up.
The high level of Sharia research and innovative efforts spearhead by Dr. Hussain in this department put DIB in the unique position of introducing many ground-breaking structures in the Islamic Finance industry.
I am proud to be part of that memorable process which is reminiscent of the old Islamic era when Muslims were torchbearers of research and development in every field, including finance.
The astounding growth in the demand for Islamic modes of financing and investment is for sure due to growing urge amongst Muslims to shun interest. We are very happy that under the guidance of learned Dr. Hussain, we provided the industry with various innovative retail and corporate structures to satisfactorily take care of such needs.
Dar Al Sharia came into existence in July 2008 on the back of such huge success as there was strong demand by the wider financial industry to be served with authentic and viable Islamic solutions which are effective alternates for conventional products and are commercially acceptable. The move has made it possible for the Islamic Financial institutions to seek benefit from Dar Al Sharias expertise as an independent entity which is greatly benefitting the institutions.
I cannot thank Allah Subhanahowata'la enough to have connected me to a teacher of the stature of Dr. Hussain and to have given me such dedicated team who has done wonders during the short period of 6 years. |
